Maintenance AssistantMaintenance assistants perform various tasks to maintain buildings. Some of their primary duties and responsibilities include to assist in maintenance capacities as required.Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates understanding and full performance ability in each of the following:Maintaining and cleaning facilities, equipment, painting, and the environmentEnsuring office equipment is in good condition by testing and checking for defective components or partsMaintaining an up-to-date inventory of equipmentDiagnosing and troubleshooting maintenance issuesHandling emergency requests for cleaning and maintenance servicesCommunicating with supervisors on the maintenance status of equipment and facilitiesAttending training sessions about best practices for maintaining and cleaning facilitiesComplying with health and safety regulations and removing waste from facilitiesManaging the routine upkeep of outdoor areas, building exteriors, and parking lotsTroubleshooting issues with lighting, HVAC systems, and plumbingOverseeing construction and repair workEligibility QualificationsKnowledgeable of the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in commercial painting. Knowledgeable of painting techniques, paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, solvents, and other materials used. Knowledgeable of methods of preparing surfaces for painting or other finishing. Knowledge in the standard practices of hanging types of walls covering. Must be able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, operational manuals, and equipment service manuals. Ability to interpret and work from sketches, rough layouts, standard drawings and specifications required. Knowledge of the occupational hazards of building trades and of necessary safety precautions. Ability to understand oral and written instructions in English. Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, time management, decision making/problem solving skills. Anticipates problems and takes action to prevent or correct repairs. Ability to be supervised/unsupervised and work cooperatively with co-workers and provide good internal and external customer service. Ability to use and care for general maintenance tools and equipment. Demonstrates an ability to meet deadlines with proven results. Basic computer skills preferred.
