Commercial HVAC TechnicianThe Commercial HVAC Technician installs, services, troubleshoots, and maintains heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This role ensures all HVAC equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications, building codes, and industry standards, with a particular focus on complex mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems.ResponsibilitiesInstall, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, air handlers, and ventilation equipment.Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in a timely and accurate manner.Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and system performance checks to maximize equipment reliability and efficiency.Troubleshoot and repair motors, compressors, fans, belts, sensors, controls, and thermostats.Test system functionality and verify proper operation after repairs or installations.Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to plan and execute work effectively.Charge, recover, and handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA guidelines and company procedures.Install, configure, and adjust thermostats, sensors, and control systems to achieve desired environmental conditions.Work with building automation systems to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize HVAC performance where applicable.Document all work performed, complete service tickets, and maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.Communicate findings, repair options, and recommendations clearly to supervisors, facility staff, and customers.Follow all safety procedures, building codes, and company standards while working on commercial and industrial sites.Support infection control and regulatory compliance in critical environments by maintaining proper ventilation, pressure controls, and filtration where required.Essential SkillsProven experience as a commercial HVAC technician or in a similar role working on commercial and industrial systems.Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems, including motors, compressors, sensors, and controls.Hands-on experience with installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of rooftop units, air handlers, chillers, and related HVAC equipment.Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation.EPA 608 certification, or the ability to obtain it upon hire, for proper handling of refrigerants.Knowledge of building automation systems and their role in HVAC control and optimization.Advanced diagnostics capabilities for identifying and resolving airflow, temperature, and humidity issues.Strong communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with facility staff and customers.Effective time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy commercial environment.Ability to work independently while adhering to safety procedures, building codes, and company standards.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working with healthcare HVAC systems and critical environments such as operating rooms, isolation rooms, and other controlled spaces.Familiarity with negative and positive pressure controls and HEPA filtration systems used in critical care and laboratory environments.Knowledge of building automation and management systems, including hospital control platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, or Honeywell.Understanding of ASHRAE healthcare standards, Joint Commission requirements, and proper ventilation protocols in regulated environments.Ability to ensure proper airflow balancing and environmental stability for operating rooms, laboratories, pharmacies, and patient-care areas.Strong attention to detail when documenting work, completing service tickets, and maintaining accurate records.Why Work Here?You join a team that values technical excellence, safety, and reliability in supporting complex commercial and critical environments. You will work primarily Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with weekends off. The position involves working on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, and within occupied buildings, including potentially sensitive or critical spaces such as healthcare areas, laboratories, and pharmacies.
