The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Student Disability Services Coordinator (VHO), within the Office of Student Affairs at Columbia School of Social Work, provides time-limited, officer-level coordination for ADA/Section 504 accommodations and registration/records support to stabilize high-volume, compliance-sensitive operations. The Coordinator is primarily responsible for the deployment and documentation of Disability Services (DS) and provides secondary support for defined registrar workflows that protect data integrity and timelines.
Responsibilities
A. Disability Services (primary scope: 80%)
Intake & tracking: Triage DS inbox; log cases; verify documentation completeness; maintain term accommodation tracker.
Faculty letters & confirmations: Disseminate DS accommodation letters; log faculty receipt within a required number of business days; escalate non-response.
Note-taking operations: Recruit/assign note-takers; monitor fulfillment and timeliness; coordinate payment with DS.
Auxiliary services & exams: Schedule Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART), transcription, sign-language interpreting, and approved testing accommodations; record deployment and completion notes.
Controls & reporting: Weekly deployment of a checklist and a simple dashboard showing open cases, overdue items, and upcoming deadlines.
B. Registration & Records Support (secondary: 20%)
Manage Inbox triage (registration): Acknowledge messages within 1 business day; route inquiries according to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP); and ensure follow-up with students/faculty.
Add/Drop processing (defined cases): Review and/or approve add/drop/section changes in accordance with approved rules, and track them to completion.
Student Record Anomalies: Reconcile routine student record mismatches and discrepancies.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent, and two or more years of relevant experience in higher education.
Demonstrated knowledge of ADA and Section 504 principles and practical deployment of accommodations in academic settings.
Proven ability to handle FERPA-protected information with discretion and accuracy.
Strong operational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and reliable follow-through in high-volume environments.
Clear, professional communication with students, faculty, and staff.
Must have availability for at least 10-15 hours per week.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience coordinating note-taking programs, CART, interpreting, and exam accommodations.
Familiarity with student information systems, degree audit tools, and ticketing or case-management workflows.
