SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES: None
JOB LOCATION: Poseidon Barge
STATUS: Full-time; FLSA Exempt
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Payroll/Accounting Specialist will be responsible for the payroll functions of the organization, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This person will also be responsible for supporting other accounting functions such as Accounts Payable for assigned business segments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
Provides records and documentation for audits
Set up and monitor payroll policies and procedures
Track insurance arrears
Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports; recording entries
Pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities; verifying federal id numbers; scheduling and preparing checks; resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos; issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments for assigned business segment
Prepare and enter journal entries as assigned
Other Accounting duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of Associate Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred
Minimum 3-5 years of related experience required
POSITION COMPETENCIES ? KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong knowledge of FLSA and other payroll-related laws
Solid knowledge of MS Office
Excellent communication and people skills
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift 15 pounds occasionally
