School Safety Readiness Specialist
The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University. The TxSSC is tasked in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. The TxSSC serves as the clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout the state of Texas. As a result, Texas has become a national leader in school safety practices and is relied upon for assistance and guidance from jurisdictions throughout the nation.The TxSSC welcomes applicants for the position of School Safety Readiness Specialist who have extensive experience within an organization that serves at the local, state, or federal level. This office-based position will be responsible for assisting in the statewide review, verification, and follow-up of multi-hazard emergency operations plans and safety and security audits for all K-12 districts, charter school districts, and community colleges in Texas to ensure compliance with state school safety legislation. This position will also assist with ongoing research and development of best practices related to school emergency operation plans, specifically the development of EOP online training, toolkits, and resources for Texas school districts. The goal of these systems is to improve the overall safety and security in our educational environments across Texas.
