Job OverviewThe Assistant Principal assists the principal of an individual school to ensure high standards of student performance in a safe learning environment that supports delivery of the approved curricula and meets the mission and vision of the school.Position DescriptionEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership and School Management Provide instructional leadership for the campus including analyzing data and developing plans to increase student achievement with the principal Assist with the coordination and implementation of the District approved curriculum in all courses Participate in developing the Campus Improvement Plan and assist with the curriculum-related activities such as program development and evaluation Analyze available data for the development and implementation of campus specific staff development Monitor student behavior, enforce discipline rules, and devise systems to support positive student behavior Coordinate and maintain a system for tracking student attendance and tardiness by enforcing district attendance policies Personnel ManagementSupport the principal in defining the expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management and communication with the publicPractice a commitment to professional growth and continuous improvementAssist with interviewing, selecting, evaluating, and growing high quality school staffAdministrative and Facilities ManagementManage the use of school facilities and grounds and coordinate programs associated with student safety to ensure a clean, orderly and safe learning environmentPerform all technical or procedural responsibilities efficiently and effectively (such as textbooks, duties, transportation, substitutes, keys, student activities, records, etcSchool/Community RelationsEstablish and maintain effective communication resulting in productive working relationships with students, staff, public and other system administratorsSupervisory ResponsibilitiesCarries out supervisory responsibilities for instructional and non-instructional staff of the assigned campus in accordance with the District’s policies and applicable laws Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees Planning, assigning, and directing work Appraising performance Rewarding and disciplining employees Addressing complaints and resolving problems Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essentials functions.Master's degree Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certificate or its equivalent Instructional Leadership Development (ILD or ILT) or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership Board Approved T-TESS Certification or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership Minimum of 2 years classroom teaching experience, preferably at the assigned level additional leadership experience on a campus or otherwise Possess a moral and ethical compassDemonstrate a heart and passion for leadershipWorking knowledge of curriculum and instructionAbility to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectivenessAbility to manage personnelAbility to coordinate campus functionsAbility to implement policy and proceduresAbility to interpret dataStrong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skillsPhysical Requirements/Working ConditionsThe work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Travel may be required to attend district and/or state meetings and conferences and school-related events.
