We're early, opinionated, and shipping fast.The Role — Founding Engineer (Remote, Full-Time)You'll build the product alongside the founder, owning meaningful surface area from day one. Hands-on engineering with founder-level scope: write the code, set technical direction, and help shape what ScholarStack becomes.What you'll work on- AI agent systems: tool-calling agents, structured outputs, memory, and RAG pipelines- Document ingestion at scale- A multi-tenant platform serving universities:- A type-safe full-stack- AWS infrastructure as code (Pulumi): ECS Fargate, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, CloudFrontYou'll fit well if you- Have shipped production systems in TypeScript and are comfortable across the stack — backend, frontend, infra- Have built with LLMs beyond toy demos: structured outputs, streaming, tool use, evals, cost/latency tradeoffs- Care about types as a design tool, not bureaucracy- Have run real Postgres in production- Are comfortable owning AWS infra, or eager to- Move fast without breaking trust: write code that's simple, delete code that isn't pulling its weight- Want to be in the room for product, hiring, fundraising, and roadmap — not just ticketsNice to have- Experience in edtech, LMS integrations (Canvas, Moodle), or selling into universities- Background in search/retrieval, vector DBs, or applied ML- Have been early at a startup beforeWhat we offer- Direct partnership with the founder on product and technical direction- Remote-first, async-friendly, low-meeting cultureIf you've looked at the AI tools your university rolled out and thought we can do better than this - let's talk.
