Underwriter - BPL (RTL, DSCR, Ground Up Construction)

Job SummaryThe Underwriter is responsible for analyzing each loan application package to determine the borrower’s ability and willingness to repay the debt and the value of the property taken as collateral. Based on this determination, the underwriter will either approve or deny the loan package as appropriate. The Underwriter ensures all applicable Federal, State and Investor requirements have been adhered to.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReviews and underwrites loan files accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with Company guidelines. Verifies documentation is complete and works with operations staff to collect additional information as necessary. Adds conditions to file if necessary in order to complete the underwriting process.Analyzes credit documents, including but not limited to, mortgage applications, credit history and income documents, title documents, appraisals and all applicable compliance documents.Approves or declines loans within limits of assigned authority. Communicates decision to appropriate individuals within the Company upholding fair lending practices.Performs other duties as assigned.Position RequirementsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredExperienceMinimum of three year’s experience as a Conventional mortgage underwriter, Junior Underwriter, or a Senior level ProcessorFunctional/Technical SkillsThorough understanding of credit and an ability to review complex financial documentsEffective written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical skills with the ability to think outside of the boxDemonstrates a commitment to quality customer serviceStrong attention to detailExcellent problem solving skills and ability to make sound judgments in a fast-paced environmentWell organized with the ability to multi-taskDemonstrates strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlinesWorks well with othersProficient in all compliance-related regulations including RESPAStrong mathematical skillsStrong PC skills (MS Office products) and experience with mortgage origination systemsEnvironmental/Physical DemandsWork is typically performed in a standard office environment.
