This role owns the application layer of our HCP Persona platform — the react frontend, FastAPI backend, background workers, and services that take the analytics pipeline (feature engineering, clustering, scoring, persona generation) and expose it through a secure, responsive web application for brand and marketing teams. You will build the APIs and orchestration that let non-technical users configure runs, trigger heavy Spark and LLM workloads, and explore results, and you will make sure it all runs reliably in a containerised environment.• Design, build, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using FastAPI• Implement asynchronous data access with SQLAlchemy (async) and PostgreSQL, including schema migrations (Alembic)• Build and operate background-job pipelines (arq / Redis) that orchestrate long-running Spark, scoring, and LLM tasks with reliable status tracking• Integrate multiple LLM providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, and self-hosted vLLM/Ollama) behind a clean, swappable provider interface• Implement server-side rendering/export of persona deliverables (headless Chromium via Playwright → PDF/PNG)• Build and maintain enterprise authentication and authorization (JWT, OAuth, SAML SSO)• Support the React/TypeScript frontend by delivering well-documented, stable API contracts; contribute to frontend work as needed• Containerize and operate the stack with Docker Compose (Postgres, Redis, backend, worker, frontend)• Write clean, tested, well-documented code and contribute to engineering standards and best practices• Independently troubleshoot and resolve issues across the stack, from API to worker to data layer• Communicate technical trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders• All other duties as requiredFor this role you will needMinimum Requirements• Bachelor's Degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field• 6+ years of professional software development experience with Python, React and frontend Javascript development• Strong experience building web services / REST APIs (FastAPI, Flask, or Django)• Solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and ORMs (SQLAlchemy), including async patterns• Experience with background job/queue processing and caching (Redis, Celery/arq, or similar)• Experience containerizing and running applications with Docker / Docker Compose• Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across an application stack• Clear, effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical teams and business stakeholders• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing prioritiesPreferred Qualifications• Master's Degree in computer science or a related field• Experience integrating LLM / GenAI APIs and building AI-driven application features• Experience with React / TypeScript frontends• Experience with authentication standards (OAuth2, SAML, JWT) in enterprise environments• Exposure to PySpark or data-intensive Python workloads• Prior experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other regulated/compliance-sensitive domainsJob LocationThis role is based in our Durham, NC office. Currently this job is a hybrid role requiring at least three days per week in the office. In office requirements could increase based on business needs.
