Business Controller

Highly experienced Controller to lead and optimize all financial operations for a growing commercial construction business. This role blends hands-on construction accounting, operational leadership, and process improvement, with a strong emphasis on helping scale the organization's expected growth over the next 5-10 years.The ideal candidate is not only technically strong in construction accounting but also has a proven track record of driving growth, implementing systems, and building scalable financial infrastructure within a construction environment.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and manage annual budgets and financial forecastsTrack and control project costs vs. budgetPrepare and analyze:Work-in-progress (WIP) reportsProfit & loss statementsBalance sheetsCash flow statementsPartner with Project Managers and operations teams to review financial performance and drive improvementsAssess and improve existing accounting systems, workflows, and proceduresEvaluate and implement construction ERP systems and financial technologiesEnsure compliance with GAAP and financial regulationsOversee:PayrollAccounts Payable (AP)Accounts Receivable (AR)Coordinate with CPA firms, clients, and auditors for financial reviews and auditsImplement and maintain internal controls and financial policiesConduct subcontractor prequalification reviewsManage cash flow and weekly cash forecastingDevelop and track KPIs tied to financial and project performanceDeliver consistent reporting and insights to executive leadershipQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldMinimum 10+ years of construction accounting or financial management experienceStrong working knowledge of GAAPDemonstrated experience with:WIP reportingJob costingConstruction financial operationsProficiency with construction ERP systemsAdvanced Excel and financial analysis capabilitiesPreferredCPA, CMA, or CCIFP certificationExperience in small-to-mid-sized construction firmsExposure to both:Smaller entrepreneurial companiesLarger established general contractors
