IRVING ISDFOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Title: Food & Nutrition Services Assistant (5.0 hrs.) / Technician (7.5 hrs.)Exemption Status: NonexemptFunding Source: Food & Nutrition ServicesReports To: Food & Nutrition Services ManagerPay Grade: Food ServiceDept/School: Food & Nutrition ServicesDate Revised: February 2025Primary Purpose:To support the Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) Department by performing meal preparation, service, cashiering, and cleaning duties at the school campus. Requires individuals with the ability to maintain records of amounts of food prepared and leftover for program accountability. Adhere to a high level of safety and sanitation standards.Qualifications:Education/ Certification:Accredited Senior High School Diploma or valid equivalent (USA equivalency) preferredThree months' food service experience preferredEffective planning and organizational skillsMust be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language to perform functionsSpecial Knowledge/SkillsResponsible for preparing food and beverages for breakfast, lunch, and supper and other programs according to standardized recipes and guidelines to serve students and staff in a safe and efficient mannerComplete meals according to the department's standardized recipes; check and report the availability of food and supplies to the Cafeteria Manager in advance of food preparationProperly use and maintain equipment in the preparation and service of meals, reporting malfunctions promptly to the Cafeteria ManagerPerform cashier, dishwashing, cooking, prepping, and meal-serving duties as instructed by the Cafeteria Manager. Keep count of meals served and monies collected and record the temperature of food, refrigeration, and freezer equipment, as directed.Comply with sanitation standards as established by the City Health Department and FNS.Assist with proper storage of food and supplies as instructed by the Cafeteria Manager.Set up, monitor and replenish the serving station, as requiredServe meals to customers as directed by the Cafeteria Manager, ensuring correct portion sizes, meal requirements, and time standards as established by the departmentRead labels and use appropriate chemicals to clean and sanitize equipment, work area, and utensils/traysClean cafeteria and/or kitchen area, which includes picking up trash, sweeping and mopping floor, cleaning equipment, putting trash cans in proper location, and wiping down tables/seatingAttend training (s) as scheduledPerform all other duties and tasks assignedAll federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriateSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Ovens, tilting skillets, institutional dish machines, serving equipment, walk-in freezers and coolers, reach-through refrigerators and warmers, mixers, immersion blenders, steamers, hot water dispensers, food preparation and serving utensils, ladders, carts, racks, hand trucks, dollies, cash register, computer, office equipmentPosture: Frequent pushing, pulling, overhead and below waist reaching, bending, stooping; frequent use of hands and fingers to grasp, handle, and manipulate food; frequent use of upper and lower body to sweep, mop, and clean floors; visual acuity to identify basic colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and adjust focusMotion: Continuous standing and walking briskly, on hard surfaces, unassisted, for length of scheduled work hoursLifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-50 pounds with assistance, and more than 50 pounds with appropriate assistanceEnvironment: Work inside; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, humidity, wet conditions, and loud noises; occasional exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; exposure to risk of electrical shock; work around machinery with moving partsMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, the rapid pace required during meal serviceThe information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
