This position plays a critical role in ensuring installed work meets project specifications, quality standards, customer expectations, and applicable codes and procedures.The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial construction, structural steel, fabrication, or high-tech manufacturing project environments and possess strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.Position SummaryThe Field Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing field inspections, verifying workmanship and material compliance, documenting quality activities, and supporting project teams in maintaining quality standards throughout all phases of construction and installation activities.This role works closely with project management, field supervision, safety personnel, inspectors, customers, and subcontractors to identify and resolve quality concerns proactively and maintain compliance with project requirements.Duties, Responsibilities, & RequirementsPerform field quality inspections of structural steel, fabrication, installation, and related construction activitiesVerify work is completed in accordance with project specifications, drawings, procedures, codes, and customer requirementsConduct inspections for fit-up, bolt installation, layout verification, material traceability, and general workmanshipDocument inspection results, deficiencies, corrective actions, and completed work activitiesAssist with tracking and maintaining quality records, inspection logs, turnover packages, and project documentationCoordinate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, engineers, and customer representatives regarding quality issues and resolutionsParticipate in customer walkthroughs, inspections, and auditsIdentify non-conforming work and assist with corrective action processesReview drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and installation requirementsVerify materials and equipment meet approved project requirementsEnsure inspection and testing activities are completed and documented properlyAssist with punch list tracking and project closeout activitiesMaintain professionalism and effective communication with customers and project teamsSupport company safety policies and maintain compliance with all site-specific safety requirementsWork in active industrial and construction environments while maintaining situational awareness and safe work practicesUtilize tablets, software systems, spreadsheets, and digital reporting tools for documentation and reportingAttend project meetings, coordination meetings, and required site trainingMaintain confidentiality of customer and project informationWork flexible schedules, overtime, weekends, or shift work as project demands requireQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredExperience in construction quality control, structural steel, industrial construction, or fabrication preferredA CWI or VT Level II certification is preferred, but not requiredExperience working on large industrial or advanced manufacturing projects preferredAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and shop drawingsUnderstanding of structural steel installation and construction practices preferredStrong attention to detail and documentation accuracyBasic computer skills including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and digital reporting systemsStrong communication and organizational skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work effectively with field crews, management, and customersOSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferredComfortable working at heights, and scaling steel structures for inspectionOperating aerial lifts is preferredKnowledge of quality control procedures and inspection processes preferredExperience with turnover documentation and punch list management preferredValid driver's license with acceptable driving recordAbility to pass site access requirements, background screening, and drug testing requirementsPhysical RequirementsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsFrequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and navigating active construction sitesAbility to lift up to 50 pounds occasionallyAbility to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, harnesses, gloves, and steel-toed bootsAbility to access elevated work areas, scaffolding, lifts, and confined construction environments as needed
