Safety Program Manager (Data Center Operations)
Overview
In this role you lead the data center safety program across multiple sites, ensuring safe, reliable operations in mission-critical environments. You provide strategic guidance, hands-on support, and develop the program with a team of Safety Coordinators. You drive safety improvements using leading and lagging indicators while balancing uptime with robust risk controls. ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and continuously improve the data center safety program across sitesDefine and execute annual safety strategy and KPIs with a focus on zero harm and contractor performancePerform risk assessments, RAMS, and job hazard analyses for critical activitiesOwn the permit-to-work system, including LOTO, isolations, and change management in live environmentsConduct site inspections/audits, track actions, and report trends to leadershipOversee incident/near-miss reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and preventive actionsAnalyze safety data (TCIR/LTIFR/DART, near misses, audits) and develop dashboards for targeted improvementsDevelop and deliver safety training for staff and contractors (electrical safety, LOTO, heights, confined spaces, manual handling, emergency response)Coach teams to embed safe systems of work without impacting uptimeLead safety committees, toolbox talks, and behavioral safety initiatives to build a safety culturePrepare for audits by clients, corporate, and regulators and manage follow-up actionsMaintain knowledge of local safety laws and translate to practical site controls
Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health or equivalentRecognized health and safety qualification or certification (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, CMIOSH/GradIOSH)4–7+ years in an HSE/safety management role with data centers or high-risk environmentsProven experience leading incident investigations, risk assessments, and site audits in contractor-heavy settingsStrong leadership and influencing abilityExcellent communication and training skills across diverse languages and culturesStrong analytical mindset with familiarity with safety dashboards and metricsRAMS development and reviewsPermit-to-work, LOTO, and change management in live environmentsIncident investigation and root cause analysis
