The Development & Stewardship VISTA will serve with Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity in McHenry, IL from September 2026-2027. Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity is part of Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity is driven by the belief that everyone deserves a place to call home. We serve families across Lake and McHenry Counties by building safe, affordable homes, preserving existing housing through repairs, and advocating for long-term stability. Since its founding in 1989, the organization has built over 200 homes for neighbors in the community, partnering with volunteers and future homeowners to increase economic stability and improve quality of life. The VISTA will strengthen our fundraising and partnership infrastructure to ensure corporate engagement, sponsorships, and donor relationships are easier to manage, steward, and renew over time. By building tracking systems, standardizing stewardship workflows, and supporting donation management, this project will help us secure funding to provide more affordable housing, financial literacy education, and long-term stability for the communities we serve. Our ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who is interested in nonprofit work, donor relations, and corporate partnerships. They are goal-minded and enjoy building structure where processes and documentation are still evolving. We are looking for someone with strong written communication skills who is comfortable with technology, databases, spreadsheets, and nonprofit workflows. Experience or coursework in nonprofit management, business, marketing, communications, or data management is a plus.Further help on this page can be found by clicking here .Member Duties : By expanding access to affordable housing and critical repairs, Lake-McHenry Habitat for Humanity helps families achieve financial stability and builds stronger, healthier communities. In order to scale our programs to support residents across two counties, we need to secure more sustainable funding. The Development & Stewardship VISTA will enhance our fundraising, partnership management, and donor engagement systems to identify and retain more funding opportunities. The VISTA will create and maintain a centralized inventory of corporate partners and donors, develop standardized workflows, establish sponsor and donor engagement dashboards, and streamline donation tracking and recognition systems.
