Sr Trial Attorney
Nationwide Trial Division seeks a Senior Trial Attorney to deliver top‑quality legal services supporting a Fortune 100 insurance company’s mission to protect people, businesses and futures. The role requires strong analytical skills, legal acumen, and experience in civil litigation for property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate trial advocacy skills independently as lead counsel or as part of a team, maintaining high case volume and quality, and adhering to NTD standard methodology guidelines.
Work with minimal managerial oversight while guiding junior attorneys and staff.
Utilize technology and collaborate with support staff for efficient case management.
Stay informed of changes to law, technology, local rules and procedural requirements that may impact litigation strategy.
Maintain subject‑matter expertise across all NTD concentrations and develop additional expertise as needed.
Provide factually, legally and analytically sound opinions on case valuations and communicate them promptly to clients and claims.
Build and maintain professional relationships within the Office of the Chief Legal Officer, claims partners, and the legal and insurance communities.
Leverage relationships to enhance NTD’s reputation and expand case referral opportunities.
Communicate proactively, meeting client, claims and internal expectations through written and verbal interactions.
Serve as a mentor and role model for junior attorneys and staff, providing guidance, coaching and feedback.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to Managing Trial Attorney.
Typical Skills And Experiences
Education: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
License/Certification/Designation: Maintains an active license in the state in which the position is located.
Experience: More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Significant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation; complex legal practice across courts and agencies; highly effective written and verbal communication; collaboration with staff and attorneys; strong negotiation, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; computer savvy; adaptability to law and technology changes; time management, organization, decision‑making, and leadership.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Job Conditions
Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)
Working Conditions: Generally a normal office environment; may work from home depending on office needs; frequent travel, occasional overnight travel, and extended hours as required. Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required.

Compensation
The national salary range for Senior Trial Attorney: $138,000.00 – $243,000.00.
The expected starting salary range for Senior Trial Attorney: $138,000.00 – $206,000.00.
Note on compensation for part‑time roles: Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full‑time schedule.
