Substitute METCO Bus Monitor-(SY25-26)
POSITION OVERVIEW
In the absence of the Bus Monitor, the Substitute Bus Monitor is responsible for helping to ensure the physical and emotional safety of students aboard the school bus by monitoring the conduct of students, preventing altercations and maintaining a safe bus ride for all students. The substitute bus monitor assists the driver by helping to create an atmosphere aboard the bus that is conducive to safety, respect for others, and proper regard for personal and public property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interact professionally and positively with the students, bus driver and parents.
Be a positive role model for students.
Be aboard the bus at or before the first stop in the AM.
In the afternoon, the monitor is required to remain aboard the bus until the last child has exited.
Maintain established district protocol with regard to bus safety procedures.
Maintain established district protocol with regard to the pick-up and drop off of all students in order to ensure safety.
Participate in school bus safety drills and training as required.
Meet regularly with the METCO Director in order to provide verbal reports and updates as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the METCO Director or his/her designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required.
Proven record of job related reliability.
Enjoys working with children and has a gentle, caring nature.
Adept at managing the behaviors of children. Prior experience in an educational setting is preferred.
Excellent communication skills and be able to interact well with students, parents and school personnel.
TERMS: Non-Union, Work year; as needed (to be determined by immediate supervisor), $60 per route ($120 per day)
WORK DAY: Morning bus commute with students; afternoon bus commute with students.
