Programs Assistant
Imagination Station is a non-profit, hands-on children's science museum, located in downtown Lafayette serving children and young adults. We are just across the river and are on the bus line from campus.We are looking for a Programs Assistant to assist with day-to-day duties at the museum.As a team member at Imagination Station, we are enthusiastic about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), but most importantly, we are looking for someone enthusiastic about learning, curiosity, and bettering the lives of children.As a Programs Assistant, duties will include: - Assisting with visitors coming in at the front desk and taking payment- Assisting with various Programs at the museum, ranging from camps to birthday parties to field trips to other science demonstrations and activities (you are not required to be a science expert!)- Working closely with our Programs Coordinator on upcoming programming events- Helping with managing communications with parents, teachers, and our partners for things like scheduling field trips and birthdays, coordinating camp activities, etc.- Helping with marketing, such as social media posts, flyer creation, and possibly outreach events- Helping to oversee the first and second floors of our building by, for example, helping children who look confused about an exhibit, explaining our membership to interested visitors, helping to pick up blocks and toys around the playroom, disinfecting museum equipment as needed, etc.Requirements:- Comfortable working around children- Comfortable managing a front desk, taking payment, and talking to visitors- Comfortable with occasional cleaning- Willingness to learn and work as a team - Willingness to take direction from our Programs Coordinator and any other supervisors- Able to work at least 1 weekend day- Able to work at least 1 weekday day between Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday- (Schedule can remain flexible to accommodate student schedules, occasionally not being available on a weekend or weekday is acceptable)- Basic computer skills (email, MS Office)Preferences: - A background in science, education, or both - Experience working with children- Experience with camps or other programs/activities- Familiarity with Social Media content creation- Familiarity with Canva and creating flyers or other marketing material- Willingness to open or close the museum on your own if needed- Ability to work year-round (students who leave for the summer are still welcome to apply for this job!)- Ability to work occasional eveningOperating hours of the museum are Wed / Thur - 10 to 1, Fri / Sat - 10 to 5 and Sun 11 to 5.Put simply, if you are motivated by the joy of learning, there's no better place to work at than Imagination Station!
