Structural Steel Estimator

Position SummaryThe Steel Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a wide range of fabrication projects, including structural steel, simple and heavy bridges, railroad catenary structures, sub-stations, railings, and miscellaneous carbon, stainless, and aluminum fabrications.  This role requires close collaboration with engineering, project management, and shop teams to ensure projects are completed on budget and to specification.  Fracture-critical project experience is preferred.Key ResponsibilitiesAnalyze project specifications, contract drawings, and bid documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.Forecast material, equipment, and labor requirements for multiple projects simultaneously.Collaborate with shop personnel and foremen to manage projects from estimate through completion.Solicit and negotiate pricing from vendors; manage buyouts for awarded projects.Monitor and manage POs, change orders, and project budgets to maintain profitability.Participate in safety and quality programs throughout the project lifecycle.Meet with customers and vendors to review jobs, clarify scope, and issue RFIs as required.Required Skills & Experience5+ years of experience in steel fabrication estimating or related roles.Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and contract documents.Proficiency in procurement and coordination of vendor quotes.Experience with estimation software and toolsExcellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.Preferred SkillsExperience with fracture-critical steel projects.Knowledge of AISC standards and industry codes.Strong teamwork, communication, and independent work ethic.Previous experience in rail transit, bridge, or infrastructure projects is a plus.Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
