Structural Steel Superintendent (Traveling)
Position OverviewThe Structural Steel Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations related to structural steel erection on large-scale commercial and industrial projects. This role ensures work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules, quality standards, and contract requirements.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage day-to-day structural steel erection activities from mobilization through completionCoordinate sequencing, logistics, and installation of complex steel systems, including columns, beams, joists, decking, and miscellaneous metalsWork closely with project management, engineers, and trade partners to maintain schedule and resolve field issuesSupervise subcontractors and field crews, ensuring productivity, safety compliance, and quality workmanshipReview drawings, specifications, and erection plans to identify conflicts and proactively address constructability concernsPlan and manage crane operations, deliveries, laydown areas, and material flowEnforce site safety programs and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standardsConduct daily site walks, progress tracking, and reportingCoordinate inspections and ensure work meets project and code requirementsMentor and develop field personnel while fostering a strong team environmentQualifications8+ years of experience overseeing structural steel erection on large, complex construction projectsProven ability to manage multiple crews, tight schedules, and high-volume steel operationsStrong knowledge of steel erection methods, sequencing, rigging, and safety practicesExperience coordinating work in fast-paced, high-demand environmentsAbility to read and interpret structural drawings and specificationsStrong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skillsPreferred ExperienceProjects involving multi-story structures, significant tonnage, and accelerated schedulesExperience working in highly coordinated environments with multiple trades on site simultaneouslyWork EnvironmentField-based role requiring daily presence on active construction sitesAbility to work extended hours as required by project demandsJGM Offers a Competitive Wage And Benefits PackageParticipate in the company’s yearly performance bonus programMedical, Vision & DentalPTO & Holidays401(k) + MatchingLife InsuranceShort/Long-Term DisabilityEmployee Assistance ProgramGenerous Referral ProgramTraining and Further EducationThis job description is subject to change based on the needs of the business and is not all-inclusive.JGM is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
