About WiscWebsWiscWebs is a Wisconsin-based web design and digital marketing agency serving small and mid-sized businesses. We build custom WordPress sites from scratch with no page builders and no off-the-shelf themes, then support them with ongoing SEO and maintenance work.We’re looking for a contract developer to help build new client sites and support existing clients, with potential to grow into a full-time role as project volume increases.The Work• Build custom WordPress themes from approved designs, primarily in Figma• Hand-code clean, responsive HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP that closely matches design mockups• Create page templates using ACF for all page content. No Gutenberg blocks, no Flexible Content, no page builders or hard-coded content• Implement front-end jQuery and related libraries where needed• WooCommerce builds and small custom plugin work as neededWhat You Should Bring• 3–5 years experience building custom WordPress themes by hand, NOT Elementor, Divi, Squarespace, Wix, etc.• Strong PHP fundamentals• Experience with Bootstrap (we currently use 4.6)• Confident with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery• Working knowledge of MySQL• Experience with ACF• Strong attention to design accuracy and front-end detail• US-based with strong written and spoken English• A portfolio with live custom WordPress sites you builtNice to Have• WooCommerce experience• Core Web Vitals / Lighthouse optimization experience• Basic technical SEO understanding, preferably experience with Yoast• Experience managing concurrent client projects and ad-hoc requests• Familiarity with SiteGroundLogistics• 1099 contract, fully remote (US-based only, any time zone) • $40–$65/hr depending on experience • Flexible schedule with occasional check-ins and deadline expectations• Primarily not client-facing outside of emails, Trello, Asana, etc.• Potential to transition into a full-time role based on fit and workload• Direct hire only.
