Assists parents with accessing information regarding school procedures and processes. Provides routine clerical and/or instructional assignments for teachers and administrators within established procedures and standard practices. Tasks performed are outlined in oral and written instructions; the employee has some control over work assignments. Contacts are made within and outside the school and may require the handling of sensitive information or dealing tactfully with parents, teachers, and staff. Some judgment is required. Each position will have a specific set of work assignments particular to meeting the needs of the students or department being served.Job Description:Essential Job Functions:Provides bilingual support for students and families.Assists school office staff and administration with providing welcoming environmentAssists parents with accessing information regarding school procedures and processes, including but limited to, enrollment processes, graduation requirements, conferencing processes, etc.Helps parents to understand and access school and community resourcesWorks in collaboration to address barriers to student successPrepares materials and displays as necessaryProvides clerical assistance as assigned, including making requested calls to parentsPerforms other duties as assigned.Budgetary Responsibility:N/AReport Preparation:N/AEquipment Operation:Operates basic office equipment and equipment related to assigned positions.Contacts:Administrators, teachers, students, staff and parents.Work Direction/Supervision:N/ADecision Making:Performs duties independently within established guidelines and instructions.Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:N/APhysical Demands:Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal indoor levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.Work Environment:The employee regularly works in a public school or office setting. The noise level is quiet to moderate.Qualifications:Considerable knowledge of English and of a second language and related cultural differences. Some knowledge of childhood growth and development and behavior management techniques and of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others. Trained in and ability to perform Community Interpreting. Demonstrated ability to provide accurate, complete and clear interpretation services; to supervise children in the absence of a supervisor; to perform basic clerical tasks; to communicate effectively in English and a second language and to follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and parents.
