Orange Beach City SchoolsJob Title: Special Education ParaprofessionalReports to: Principal or DesigneeJob Goal: To assist certified professional staff with students in all educational environments to meet instructional goals and objectives.Qualifications:Holds a high school diploma or equivalentFor Title I or Title I Targeted Assistance Program Schools only:Must hold an Associate's Degree (or)Have completed a minimum of 48 semester hours of study at a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or)Have successfully completed the Alabama State Board of Education approved WORKKEYS assessmentProficiency in oral and written communication skillsDemonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilitiesAlternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptablePerformance Responsibilities:Understand and assist in upholding school rules, policies, and proceduresFollows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needsRespect the confidentiality of information pertaining to students, staff and school-related businessAssists students in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize learning and achievementAssists and guides all students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skillsWorks with students individually, in small groups, or whole groups to reinforce and re-teach basic learning and implement assigned programsAssists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests, and assessmentsAssists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needsAssists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performancePerform clerical tasks including inventory, filing, typing, data entry, and material productionBasic knowledge of technology and ability to apply knowledge to assigned areas of responsibilityAssist the teacher with basic physical needs of studentsPrepares educational materials as neededAssists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on taskAssists all students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areasAttend and participate in individual, school, and system professional development activitiesAttends school staff meetings as requiredMaintain a cooperative working relationship with school staff, parents, and communityPromote good public relations for the school system with the publicAssists teachers with parent contact, as requested, to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student educationParticipates in the IEP process and serves as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team as neededAssist students with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities (toileting, feeding, maneuvering, hygiene, etc)Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school systemSupports and complies with school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulationsPerforms other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor(s)Terms of Employment/Salary: 9 month (187 Days) 8-Hours / Non-Exempt / To be determined, commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.For School District information, please click here.For Orange Beach City Schools Salary Schedule, please click here.
