The Senior Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for administration, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise infrastructure services. This role provides senior-level technical leadership for core platforms including servers, virtualization, storage, identity, networking services, backup/recovery, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure. The position ensures availability, performance, scalability, and security of infrastructure systems, leads complex troubleshooting and major incident response, and drives standardization and automation to improve reliability and efficiency. The Senior Infrastructure Administrator partners with cybersecurity, application teams, and service management and International IT Management to deliver resilient infrastructure aligned to organizational needs, compliance requirements, and best practices.
The Senior Infrastructure Administrator serves as a senior technical resource responsible for the reliable day-to-day operation, enhancement, and optimization of systems supporting Microsoft 365, Azure services, Windows Server, identity platforms, virtualization, storage systems, security services, and network-integrated solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Maintains broad and deep technical knowledge across multiple infrastructure domains, including server platforms, cloud services, identity and access management, storage, desktop platforms, security services, and network dependencies, and applies that expertise to support complex operational requirements and escalations.
Provides administrator-level oversight of critical infrastructure services, performing advanced configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and remediation activities to ensure availability, performance, security, and compliance.
Leads or supports initiatives related to system upgrades, cloud migrations, automation, patching, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity, using established standards, best practices, and organizational policies. Relies on extensive experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish complex technical tasks and operational goals.
Develops and maintains comprehensive technical and operational documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, runbooks, and service records, to support consistency, audit readiness, and knowledge transfer.
Demonstrates strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills while working collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to support enterprise infrastructure needs and ongoing operational improvements for Webster University.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, including:
Entra ID (Azure AD)
Exchange Online
Teams
SharePoint Online
Intune
Solid experience managing Windows Server environments, including:
Active Directory
Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
DNS and DHCP
Experience supporting Azure infrastructure, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity services
Practical experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or similar virtual desktop technologies
Demonstrated knowledge of identity and access management, including least-privilege principles and access lifecycle management
Experience with automation and scripting, such as:
PowerShell
Experience with patching, upgrades, monitoring, and troubleshooting of enterprise infrastructure systems
Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions
Familiarity with certificate management and PKI concepts
Working knowledge of Linux operating systems in hybrid or multi-platform environments
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to document systems and processes clearly and accurately
Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and automation
5+ years supporting and improving enterprise infrastructure (on-prem and/or cloud), with hands-on experience in server administration, identity services, virtualization, relational databases, collaboration tools, cloud technologies, monitoring, patching, backups, disaster recovery/business continuity, and advanced troubleshooting. Proven track record of owning complex issues end-to-end, collaborating across teams, and using automation/standardization to increase uptime and reduce operational risk.
