Lower School Classroom Teacher (Proactive Search)

This search is proactive. There is not a specific opening at this time.The Lower School Classroom Teacher (Grades K-3) is a full time position reporting to the Head of the Lower School. The classroom teacher is responsible for guiding the social, emotional and academic growth of a class of students. The ability to appreciate and work effectively across individual and cultural differences is essential.Duties And ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate the ability to communicate, motivate and understand the academic and emotional needs of six to nine year old childrenPlan and implement lessons in language arts, mathematics, and social studies that facilitate active learning and follow Potomac’s curricular guidelines and requirementsMonitor student progress using a range of formal and informal assessment tools, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a range of learnersCreate and manage a positive classroom environment that inspires student learningWork collaboratively with other teachers, parents, support staff, and members of the communityCommunicate effectively with parents to discuss student progress and areas for growthParticipates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshopsPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor’s Degree in related fieldTwo or more years of teaching experience at the primary levelAbility to support Potomac’s mission to foster each child’s intellectual development, love of learning and strength of characterA collaborative and engaging educator with outstanding communication and organizational skills.In striving to fulfill its mission, The Potomac School seeks candidates of diverse backgrounds who embody our core values of courage, integrity, humility, perseverance, and respect.
