Staff Attorney (Contracts & Federal Grants) - Nonprofit | Remote (NY-Based)We are partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization to hire a Staff Attorney with strong experience in federal grants, government contracting, and contract negotiation.This is a remote, 35-hour/week contract role with the expectation to report to the New York City office 1 day per month.CompensationUp to $56/hour (depending on experience)Contract position35 hours per weekRemote (NY-based, with monthly in-office requirement)What You’ll DoContracts & Legal Advisory (Primary Focus)Draft, review, redline, and negotiate a high volume of contracts, including:Subrecipient agreements tied to federal/state/local grantsVendor and commercial agreementsAdvise internal teams on contract structure, risk, and complianceEnsure all agreements align with organizational goals and legal requirementsFederal Grants & Government ComplianceProvide legal support on federal grant matters, including HHS fundingInterpret and apply Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and applicable state requirementsSupport contracting processes tied to government fundingRegulatory Research & GuidanceConduct legal and regulatory researchDraft clear, concise legal memorandaMonitor changes at the city, state, and federal level and advise on impactCross-Functional SupportPartner with Contracts and Management Services teamsHandle ad hoc legal matters as they ariseMust-Have Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)Active member of the New York Bar (or eligible for immediate admission)3-6 years of experience (law firm, in-house, or government)Strong, hands-on experience drafting and negotiating contractsDirect experience with federal grants and government contractingDeep understanding of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)Excellent writing, analytical, and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities independentlyPreferred ExperienceBackground in the nonprofit sectorExperience with healthcare-related organizations or fundingStrong collaboration and stakeholder communication skillsHigh attention to detail and sound judgmentProficiency with Microsoft OfficeWhat Sets You ApartYou’re both detail-oriented and pragmatic in contract negotiationsYou can translate complex regulations into clear, actionable guidanceYou thrive in a mission-driven, collaborative environmentYou operate with a high level of integrity and accountabilityWork EnvironmentRemote role with 1 day/month in-office (NYC)Collaborative, team-oriented cultureSteady, meaningful work supporting public impact initiativesTo ApplyApply via LinkedIn or submit your resume highlighting relevant contracts and federal grants experience.
