BASIC FUNCTIONS: Under the direct supervision of the District Coordinator, the District Representative will work closely with constituents, Antelope Valley organizations, local governments, and state agencies. The District Representative will also assist in the drafting of e-blasts, press releases, social media posts, in a back-up capacity when the Press Secretary is away from the office and assisting with other outreach communications relating to events under the District Representative's assigned areas for the 23rd District. Applicants must be organized, detail-oriented, capable of working collaboratively, and able to consistently exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism while conducting themselves with integrity at all times. DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the District Coordinator, the ideal candidate will be flexible, able to work in a fast-paced, professional environment, and provide high-quality constituent services. The District Representative will effectively communicate the Senator's position on issues affecting the Antelope Valley and attend events and meetings with the Senator, or on the Senator's behalf, as assigned. The District Representative must remain well-informed on Antelope Valley issues by engaging in ongoing community outreach, closely following local news sources, and tracking constituent input. This position requires the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, apply good judgment in all interactions, and uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct. DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Candidates must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under pressure, work collaboratively with District and Capitol staff, and pay close attention to detail. Strong critical-thinking skills are required to address complex issues. Candidates must communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; accurately follow directions; work independently with minimal supervision; and consistently exercise discretion and confidentiality. The position requires availability for nights and weekends as needed. Candidates must possess excellent communication and analytical skills, along with a working knowledge of the legislative process. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects while working effectively both independently and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Spanish language skills strongly preferred. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required. Legislative experience preferred. Please include verification of your degree with your completed application. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, in addition to proficiency with Microsoft Office and PCs. A current driver's license and automobile liability insurance are mandatory. Knowledge of legislative culture and process is preferred. Prior experience with LCMS is a plus. A strong commitment to providing excellent service to constituents is necessary. Before being hired, candidates for this position are required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employee Pull Notice Program and must complete a DMV Form INF 1101, which authorizes the release of their driving record to the Senate Rules Committee. You must possess a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record. In addition you are required to have proof of liability insurance at all times. The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours, holiday, or weekend work. Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
