The successful candidate will be at the forefront of the company's commitment to eradicating extreme poverty and reducing overall poverty in the region. This pivotal role involves overseeing the development and execution of a cutting-edge applied research agenda on poverty dynamics and vulnerability, with a focus on informing policy design and operational work. The Principal Economist will be responsible for proactively identifying priority policy questions, leading the design of state-of-the-art tools and methodologies for poverty analysis, and ensuring that the research is aligned with the company's institutional strategy. Collaboration is a key aspect of the role, as the team will work in partnership with other organizations to share data, resources, and knowledge. Applicants for the Principal Economist position should have a Master's degree in a relevant field, with a PhD preferred, and at least 7 years' of experience in international development, particularly in poverty and vulnerability research and policy advisory services. A strong publication record and proficiency in statistical software packages are required. The role demands full professional proficiency in Spanish and English, with knowledge of French and Portuguese considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of thought leadership in the field, the ability to manage a team effectively, and experience in high-level representation and strategic dialogues.
