CPG Sales Director – National Retail (Energy Bars / Functional Snacks)
OverviewWe are a healthy, functional energy bar brand seeking a Sales Director with direct national and regional account sales and management experience in energy or protein bars, functional snacks, energy drinks, or adjacent CPG categories to lead retail account sales, management and distribution expansion and drive velocity across key retail channels including Grocery (including Natural), Convenience, Club, Big Box and Specialty.This role owns both sell-in (distribution, placement) and sell-through (sales velocity, merchandising and promotions), with a primary focus on scaling business within existing and upcoming channel accounts, including retailers such as Albertsons/Safeway, Kroger, H-E-B, Wegman’s, Circle-K, Cumberland Farms, Wawa, Sprouts, Costco, Walmart, Target and others.This role has ownership of revenue, customer P&L, trade spend, and retail performance, aligned to annual operating plans.Location: U.S. based / Remote work position.Timing / Availability: Immediate Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Account GrowthOwning Grocery/Natural channel, and strategic support of Convenience, Club, Big Box and Specialty channelsLead buyer relationships, line reviews, and category presentations with compelling strategy and decksBuild and execute annual account plans aligned to company priorities and growth objectivesIdentify, pitch, and close new retail accounts (regional → national expansion)Drive gains in ACV distribution, TDPs, assortment, and shelf placementOwn account-level revenue targets, velocity, margin, and growth against annual operating plansRetail Execution & MerchandisingManage third-party merchandising vendors to secure high-impact primary bar set and secondary placements (frontend, checkstand, endcaps, floor or countertop displays, etc)Ensure in-store execution excellence by merchandisers across placement, pricing, and promotions, reviewing reporting and guiding service providersTrade Strategy & Financial OwnershipOwn customer P&L, trade budgets, and promotional investment strategyDevelop pricing architecture and promotional cadence by retailerManage trade spend to deliver measurable ROI and margin targetsCollaborate with Accounting on oversight of deductions, bill-backs and financial reconciliationBroker & Distributor ManagementManage brokers against revenue, distribution, and execution of KPIs with reportingOversee and manage distributor relationships including UNFI, KeHE, McLane, Core-Mark and othersDrive distribution center authorizations, item setup, and distribution expansionEnsure inventory flow and minimize out-of-stocksForecasting, Supply Chain & OperationsOwn sales forecasting by account, SKU, channelPartner with Supply Chain on inventory planningAlign demand planning with retail expansion to avoid stock disruptionsAnalytics & Performance ManagementAnalyze syndicated and retailer data reports (SPINS, IRI/Nielsen, retailer POS tools)Track and optimize:Velocity (units and $/SKU/store/week)ACVTDPsTrade ROITranslate insights into actionable growth strategiesQualifications7–12+ years of CPG sales experience with national account ownershipHighly entrepreneurial, hands-on, and execution-focused, ensures strategy converts to in-store resultsBuilder + operator: Wins placement and drives performanceRetail-native: Deep understanding of Grocery and Convenience Chains, Costco, Walmart and TargetDirect experience managing Grocery & Natural, Costco, Walmart, or Target accountsHistory of ownership of:Customer P<rade spend and promotional ROIJoint business planningStrong understanding of club channel economics (pack sizes, margins, rotations)Experience with retailer systems (e.g., Walmart Retail Link/Luminate or equivalent, for monitoring point-of-sale (POS) data, inventory levels, and operational reports)Proven track record of:Securing new authorizationsExpanding ACV and distributionDriving in-store velocityStrong financial, analytical, and negotiation skillsEmail Resumé with Subject Line “Sales Director Position” to:Careers@QuantumSquares.comQuantum Energy Square is an equal opportunity employer.
