The Senior General Counsel works closely with the District’s leadership team and reports to the Chief General Counsel and Deputy Chief General Counsel. This position involves complex legal work across a wide range of subject areas, including representing the District in administrative proceedings and litigation in federal and state courts, and providing strategic legal guidance on operational and policy matters affecting schools, staff, and students.Position DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site position located in Nevada, United States. Under the direction of the Chief General Counsel and Deputy Chief General Counsel, the Senior General Counsel represents the District in pending and active litigation, advises the District on legal matters, including interpretation of statues, case law, contracts, student rights, civil rights issues, human resources, labor relations, and other District-related legal issues, including the development, revision, and implementation of District policies and procedures. This position also assists in the oversight and coordination of the Administrative Investigations Division within the Office of the General Counsel; provides guidance, direction, and coaching to staff; and supports the effective administration and consistency of investigative processes and outcomes.BenefitsThe position salary range is  $159,125.00 to $246,852.00, with the initial salary placement between $159,125.00 to $184,207.00 depending on experience. The District offers a highly competitive benefits package, which includes an employer-paid contribution plan for PERS, periodic cost-of-living adjustments, comprehensive health insurance, paid vacation (with cashout options), paid sick leave, all state and federal holidays, payment of State Bar of Nevada and CLE dues, and an annual education bonus and longevity bonus for eligible employees.QualificationsJuris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant legal experience in public-sector law, civil litigation, or as in-house counsel for a public agency required. Must possess a valid license to practice law in the State of Nevada at the time of appointment.The ideal candidate demonstrates strong knowledge of federal and Nevada laws impacting public agencies and education, including school law, labor relations, administrative law, and public records requirements. This role requires the ability to provide practical legal advice, manage litigation and administrative proceedings, conduct investigations, and draft and negotiate a wide range of legal documents.Successful candidates will possess excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; exercise sound judgment in high-stakes and confidential matters; and effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders while supporting compliance, governance, and labor relations functions.
