Small Projects Retrofit Estimator
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Small Projects / Retrofit Estimator to support a high-volume pipeline of mechanical retrofit, renovation, tenant improvement, and small construction projects.
This is a field-driven estimating role—ideal for someone who has worked in the field and understands real-world job site conditions, constructability challenges, and installation sequencing. Prior hands-on mechanical field experience is required.
If you know how jobs actually get built—not just how they look on paper—this role is for you.
What You’ll Do
Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for mechanical retrofit, renovation, and small project scopes
Perform quantity takeoffs using drawings, specifications, site walks, and firsthand field knowledge
Evaluate constructability, access limitations, phasing, shutdowns, and occupied-space constraints
Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing based on field-proven production rates
Conduct job site visits to assess existing conditions and validate labor and scope assumptions
Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, service managers, and technicians to confirm constructability
Price change orders, add-ons, and scope revisions common to retrofit work
Solicit, review, and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotes
Support project handoff by clearly communicating assumptions, exclusions, and field constraints
Maintain estimating files, documentation, and historical cost data
Participate in post-job reviews and job cost feedback

High school diploma or GED
3–5 years of hands-on field experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, or piping
Prior estimating experience specific to retrofit, renovation, or small projects
Strong understanding of mechanical systems and existing-facility construction
Ability to translate site conditions into realistic labor and cost assumptions
Proficiency with spreadsheet-based estimating tools
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Foreman, service technician, superintendent, or field leadership background
Experience working in occupied buildings and live environments

Frequent access to rooftops, mechanical rooms, ladders, and confined spaces
Ability to walk job sites, climb, bend, kneel, and work in varying conditions
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
Required use of PPE and compliance with all safety policies
