Director of School Counseling-ElementaryJOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 04/17/2026 CLOSING DATE: 04/23/2026 04:00 PM POSTING NUMBER: 053015 LOCATION: Admin Student Support Services - 880 POSITION TITLE: Director of School Counseling-Elementary JOB DESCRIPTION:Direct, manage, and evaluate the District Comprehensive Guidance Plan to address the unique needs of elementary and intermediate students, while advancing character education, cultivating relationships, and supporting the development of the whole child.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide strategic leadership and oversight for elementary and intermediate school counseling programs to ensure alignment with district priorities, the Texas Comprehensive School Counseling Model, and best practices.Collaborate with district departments to design, implement, and monitor integrated systems of support for students, staff, and families.Lead the alignment and implementation of character education frameworks across elementary and intermediate campuses.Lead the development and implementation of a districtwide character education framework aligned to district values and initiatives (e.g., The Texas Standard).Support campuses in embedding character development, relationship-building, and student connectedness into daily practices and school culture.Collaborate with campus leaders to ensure students are connected to a trusted adult and have opportunities to develop leadership, responsibility, and positive decision-making skills.Develop resources and professional learning to support staff in integrating character education into classroom instruction, counseling programs, and campus initiatives.Supervise, support, and provide guidance to elementary and intermediate counselors, principals, and staff in the areas of counseling services, character education, and trauma-informed practices.Design, implement, and evaluate professional learning for counselors, staff, parents, and community members.Develop and oversee mentoring and onboarding systems for elementary and intermediate counselors.Provide leadership in improving counseling practices through observation, feedback, coaching, and targeted professional development.Lead the collection, analysis, and use of data to inform program improvements, identify student needs, and monitor outcomes.Support campuses in identifying at-risk students and developing systems of intervention to promote student success.Collaborate with campus and district staff to address behavioral, social-emotional, and academic needs through proactive and responsive supports.Serve as a key liaison between the district and community agencies, including mental health providers, social services, and other support organizations.Collaborate with Teaching & Learning, Student Services, SHAC, and other departments to align initiatives and ensure comprehensive support systems.Work cross-functionally with district leaders to support initiatives such as student transitions, summer programming, and family engagement.Provide leadership in the development and implementation of districtwide mental health supports and prevention programs.Lead and support campus crisis response efforts and ensure campuses maintain effective crisis plans and protocols.Support the implementation of safe and supportive school environments, including coordination of district safety and wellness initiatives.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, policies, and procedures related to counseling, student services, and mental health.Maintain knowledge of legislative updates impacting elementary and intermediate students, staff, and programs.Communicate relevant goals, priorities, and student support information with appropriate stakeholders, including school personnel and external agencies.Uphold professional ethical standards in all aspects of the role.Serve as a resource and leader during district and campus crises or critical incidents.Participate in professional learning and conferences to remain current on best practices.Maintain confidentiality.Perform other duties as assigned.
