DescriptionAbout the Role: Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Systems Administrator to be part of our Security team and based out of our Arlington, VA location. The Systems Administrator will have experience in managing, maintaining, and securing Arlington critical virtual infrastructure, physical and Windows/Linux environments. The ideal candidate has a deep technical background in Windows OS, Linux OS, and virtualization/physical best practices, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a proven ability to maintain highly available, secure, and performant systems. Clearance & Location Requirements: All applicants must currently posess an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 5 days in office, based out of our Arlington, VA location.What You Will Do: Window System Administration: Install, configure, secure, and maintain windows operating systems (Windows 11) in both virtual and physical environments.Server Administration: Install, configure, secure, and maintain server operating system (Server 2022 and 2025) in both virtual and physical environments.VMware Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server.Linux System Administration: Install, configure, secure, and maintain Linux operating systems (Red Hat) in both virtual and physical environments.Security & Compliance: Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, security, and performance; implement and maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies. Demonstrate the ability to manage, execute, and maintain system compliance through STIG implementation, SCAP scanning, and ACAS/Nessus vulnerability management.Troubleshooting: Provide Tier 2/3 support to quickly diagnose and resolve complex system and virtual/physical system performance issues, system configuration problems, and outages.Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerCLI, Ansible Playbook) to streamline routine administrative tasks, deployments, and reporting.Who You Are (Required): Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or other STEM field (or equivalent full-time professional experience)3+ years of professional systems administration experienceSecurity+ CE certificationAbility to travel up to 10% of the time as neededExperience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V).Experience with configuring systems OS alone with (ConMon) daily, monthly and quarterly maintenance to all physical systems and virtualization technologies.Familiarity with network management, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewalls.Proficiency with backup and disaster recovery solutions.Solid experience with PowerShell or Bash scripting for automation.Ability to understand and interact with complex DoD compliance toolsWhat Makes You Stand Out: Managed and maintained system compliance through STIG implementation, SCAP scanning, and ACAS/Nessus vulnerability management (Linux/Windows)Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with Windows and Virtualization.Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and collaboration with technical and non-technical staff.Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and learning new technologies.Demonstrated experience managing enterprise environments using PDQ Deploy or TaniumFamiliarity with tools such as JIRA, Zendesk and ConfluenceIf you see yourself reflected in this role and are excited about the impact you could make, we encourage you to apply! Pay Range*: $90,000 - $150,000 or $114,000 - $184,000 This amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate's experience, skills, and education. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
