Job Description OverviewThe Control Panel Test Engineer at Quality Electrical Systems (QES) is responsible for testing, inspection, and validation of bespoke electrical control systems designed to meet client specifications. This role ensures that all systems meet quality, safety, and performance standards prior to deployment. The position involves hands-on testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration with engineering, production, and panel teams to resolve issues and support successful project delivery.________________________________________Key ResponsibilitiesPerform function testing, fault finding, load testing, load control testing, waveform testing, harmonics testing, and current injection testing (including generator and load bank setup) for custom control systemsConduct software programming related to control systemsProcess and document inspection and test dataWork on LV circuitry, PLC communications, testing, and protection relaysCarry out punch list inspections and assist with rectification work as requiredMark up drawings and test reports, ensuring adherence to controlled proceduresMaintain test equipment and load test facilitiesLiaise with the Panel Supervisor regarding testing activities and issuesAssist in resolving build issues during productionWork in accordance with Quality and Health & Safety Management systems, meeting ISO 9001 requirements________________________________________Knowledge and Experience RequirementsPrevious experience in testing and inspection of electrical control panels within oil & gas or petrochemical environmentsProven electrical fault-finding experienceThorough understanding and use of standard electrical testing equipmentAbility to read and interpret engineering drawingsFamiliarity with LV systems, PLC communications, and protection relaysExperience working within structured quality and safety frameworks such as ISO 9001________________________________________Core CompetenciesTechnical testing and diagnostic expertiseAttention to detail and quality assuranceProblem-solving and fault resolutionCollaboration across engineering and production teamsCompliance with safety and quality standardsEffective communication and coordination________________________________________Skills and SpecificationsStrong hands-on experience with electrical testing tools and methodologiesAbility to analyze waveform, harmonics, and load test dataProficiency in documenting and reporting test resultsWorking knowledge of PLC systems and electrical protection schemesAbility to manage multiple tasks in a production environmentStrong communication skills for cross-functional coordinationDetail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance________________________________________Key InterfacesEngineering: Liaise with engineering staff regarding issues arising from inspections and testingProduction: Resolve issues and technical queries to ensure smooth and uninterrupted production assembly; communicate with Design Office staff for timely issue resolutionPanel Bay: Work with Design Office staff to resolve issues and technical queries during panel inspections and checks________________________________________Physical RequirementsRegularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to sitOccasionally required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawlFrequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 poundsSpecific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focusAbility to travel to customer sites to assist with startups, training, and service activitiesCompany Description Quality Electrical Systems (QES) is a leading manufacturer of custom-engineered electrical distribution equipment based in West Jordan, Utah.
