We challenge the status quo, advocate for scalable technical solutions, and hold a high bar for what "great" looks like - while staying grounded in translating ambiguous requirements into real business value.Here's what you'll do day-to-day:Design, build, and maintain scalable Apex solutions on the Salesforce platform that support our Sales and CX teamsUse AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code or equivalent) throughout the development lifecycle to write, review, debug, and document codeOversee ongoing improvements to deployed features and measure their impactApply Salesforce platform architecture and change/release management best practices, using sf cli for deploymentsWrite well-structured, easily maintainable, and well-documented codeBuild, test, and debug reliable production systems at scale, ideally real-time, event-driven, or high-throughputContribute to codebases beyond Salesforce when the work calls for itHere's what we're looking for:6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years developing on the Salesforce platform in ApexSalesforce Platform Developer I and/or Application Architect certification(s)Strong understanding of Salesforce platform architecture, with experience using the sf CLI and Salesforce change/release management best practicesFluent, daily use of AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code or equivalent) across the development lifecycle — writing, reviewing, debugging, and documenting code — with strong judgment on when and how to apply themComfortable writing well-structured, maintainable, well-documented code, including in codebases outside of Salesforce (Ruby on Rails experience a plus)Proven track record building, testing, and debugging reliable production systems at scaleSkilled at translating ambiguous requirements into business value and advocating for scalable technical solutionsExperience in regulated industries preferredPlease note that a two day travel to a Gusto office for onboarding is required for this position. If you have any questions regarding this requirement, please share with your recruiter.Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $163,000–$204,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $197,000–$247,000 for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
