Software Engineer (Applications and Integration)

*Overview* We are building the clinical platform our treatment operation runs on, and we’re looking for a backend engineer to own real parts of it. That means the data model, the services that sit on top of it, and the integrations that connect it to the systems it depends on. The platform holds patient records covered by HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, so privacy and access control are just part of how we build here. You don’t need to walk in an expert on that, but you should care about getting it right. *What you'll do* Take a real area of the platform and own it from the schema up through the services and APIs. Design it, ship it, and keep it running in production, including the database changes that land on live systems. You’ll also build and maintain integrations with third-party APIs, which mostly means dealing with all the ways those APIs break. We write our designs down, and we’ll expect you to do the same. In your first few months we’d want you deploying to production and running a feature area. By the end of your first year, designing and shipping a real subsystem mostly on your own. *What we're looking for* * 3 to 6 years building production software and sticking around to own it after it launches * Strong SQL and data modeling. You can design a schema and change a database real people depend on without breaking it * A server-side language you’ve actually shipped with. We use Go, but solid work in Python, C#, Java, or TypeScript is good preparation, and we’ll expect you to get productive in Go * Real integration work against third-party APIs * Hands-on time with a major cloud. We’re on Azure * You write clearly. We review documents as carefully as we review code Full stack is a bonus. The core of this job is backend, but if you can carry a feature all the way to the screen, that helps. *Nice to have* * Healthcare experience, especially HIPAA or 42 CFR Part 2. It’s rare, and we’d genuinely value it * A background in behavioral health, addiction treatment, or clinical research * Terraform or similar infrastructure as code * Comfort with server-rendered web, and no strong attachment to a heavy front-end framework *Our Stack* Go, SQL, Python, PostgreSQL, Azure. None of it is sacred beyond what’s already built on it. We’d rather bring on someone with real opinions about the right tool for a job than someone who only knows ours, as long as those opinions come with a written argument behind them. Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) * 401(k) matching * Flexible schedule * Health insurance * Paid time off Application Question(s): * Tell us about a system you built and owned start to finish. What was your role from design through production, why did you go the way you did, and what were the hardest things you had to fix after it shipped? Work Location: Hybrid remote in Costa Mesa, CA 92626
