Sales and Use Tax Specialist
Job Description:
Prepare, review, and file complex multi-state sales and use tax returns
Analyze invoices, sales transactions, purchase data, and expense records to determine taxability
Reconcile monthly sales and use tax general ledger accounts and maintain detailed, audit-ready workpapers and documentation
Monitor and help assess nexus, registration needs, and other state and local compliance requirements
Serve as a primary point of contact for client and state inquiries, including notices, audits, and other correspondence with taxing authorities
Perform sales and use tax research, support voluntary disclosure agreements, refund claims, and exemption certificate management
Advise internal teams and clients on the taxability of products and services
Partner across teams to support tax system configurations, integrations, and automation
Maintain internal sales and use tax calendars
Work with senior leadership to track compliance metrics, identify process gaps, and propose scalable process and systems enhancements
Participate in weekly team meetings and contribute to training, documentation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives
Attend internal meetings, training sessions, and tax planning sessions
Cross-train on Kruze’s services and clients
Engage in ongoing professional development
Requirements:
2+ years of multi-state sales and use tax or indirect tax experience
Strong knowledge of sales and use tax rules, taxability, exemptions, and reporting requirements
Experience preparing and filing sales and use tax returns
Experience with sales and use tax compliance software such as Avalara, Vertex, or comparable tools
Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks)
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
