Data Engineer (SQL Server)
Job Title: Data Engineer (SQL Server / ETL)Location: Hybrid – Atlanta, GA (4 days onsite)Type: ContractOverviewWe are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer for our client to design, build, and optimize data pipelines that support critical business applications and analytics. This role requires deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including data transformation, pipeline orchestration, and performance tuning.You’ll work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure data is accurate, timely, and scalable, while helping define data sourcing and ingestion strategies across multiple systems.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft SQL ServerImplement and manage incremental data load strategies using Change Data Capture and other techniquesDevelop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies for large datasetsSchedule, monitor, and troubleshoot automated workflows using SQL Server AgentDesign data refresh strategies (full reloads, truncation, incremental loads) based on business and system requirementsHandle data lifecycle processes, including deletes, updates, and historical trackingUtilize hashing or similar techniques for deduplication, change detection, and data integrityWork extensively within SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for development, debugging, and performance tuningCollaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable data solutionsDefine and improve data sourcing strategies across internal and external systemsEnsure data quality, reliability, and performance across all pipelinesRequired Qualifications5+ years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server in a data engineering or ETL-focused roleStrong expertise using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for query development, debugging, and optimizationAdvanced SQL skills (complex queries, joins, CTEs, performance tuning)Hands-on experience with Change Data Capture or other incremental data ingestion methodsExperience with job scheduling and automation using SQL Server AgentProven experience designing ETL/ELT processes, including full and incremental load strategiesExperience working with large datasets and optimizing performanceStrong understanding of data warehousing concepts and data modelingPreferred QualificationsExperience integrating with or sourcing data from SAP systems (e.g., ECC, S/4HANA)What Success Looks LikeReliable, automated data pipelines with minimal failuresEfficient data load strategies that reduce processing time and costHigh data quality and consistency across systemsClear, scalable data architecture that supports business growthAbout GSquared Group:Shouldn’t your recruiting partner put as much effort and value into your career as you do?
