Director SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting

Job Title: Director, SEC Reporting & Technical AccountingDepartment: Finance / AccountingReports To: VP, Corporate Controller or Chief Accounting OfficerLocation: Hybrid in PlanoPosition Summary The Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting is responsible for leading the company’s external financial reporting process and ensuring full compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations . This role oversees the preparation and filing of all SEC reports, manages the company’s XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) reporting and tagging process , and provides technical accounting expertise for complex transactions and emerging accounting standards.This leader will partner closely with finance, legal, investor relations, FP&A, and external auditors to ensure timely, accurate, and transparent financial disclosures while maintaining alignment with evolving regulatory requirements and SEC taxonomy updates .Key ResponsibilitiesLead the preparation and review of all SEC filings, including Form 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other required disclosures .Ensure financial statements and footnotes are prepared in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting standards .Coordinate the quarterly and annual financial reporting process, including internal and external review cycles.Manage disclosure controls and procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of public filings.Partner with Investor Relations and Legal to ensure consistency between earnings releases, investor presentations, and SEC filings.Oversee the company’s XBRL tagging and filing process , ensuring accuracy and completeness of data tagging.Ensure compliance with SEC taxonomy requirements and evolving digital reporting standards .Manage relationships with third-party financial reporting/XBRL vendors and platforms.Review and validate inline XBRL (iXBRL) tagging , extensions, and data quality controls prior to submission.Monitor regulatory updates related to digital reporting requirements and implement process improvements.Technical AccountingServe as the company’s internal expert on technical accounting matters and new accounting pronouncements .Research and document accounting positions related to complex transactions including:Revenue recognitionBusiness combinationsLease accountingEquity and debt transactionsImpairments and restructuringPrepare technical accounting memos supporting accounting conclusions.Lead the implementation of new FASB/GAAP standards and assess their impact on financial reporting.Compliance & ControlsSupport and enhance SOX compliance related to financial reporting processes.Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting and disclosure.Collaborate with internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.Leadership & Cross-Functional CollaborationLead and mentor a team responsible for financial reporting and XBRL preparation.Partner with finance leadership, treasury, tax, and FP&A to ensure alignment of financial data across reporting functions.Drive process improvements and automation within the financial reporting function.Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on accounting and regulatory matters.Qualifications EducationBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance requiredMaster’s degree in Accounting or MBA preferredCPA requiredExperience10+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant SEC reporting experiencePublic accounting background (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferredExperience in a public company or SEC reporting environmentDirect experience overseeing XBRL tagging and digital financial reportingTechnical SkillsDeep knowledge of SEC reporting requirements, U.S. GAAP, and financial disclosure standardsExpertise in XBRL / iXBRL tagging and SEC taxonomyExperience with financial reporting platforms (Workiva, ActiveDisclosure, Certent, or similar)Strong understanding of SOX and internal control frameworksAdvanced Excel and financial reporting systems experienceStrong technical accounting expertiseExceptional attention to detail and analytical abilityAbility to interpret and apply complex regulatory guidanceStrong project management and deadline management skillsExecutive-level communication and presentation skillsCollaborative leadership and cross-functional influencePreferred ExperienceExperience managing SEC filing automation platformsExperience with large, complex public company reporting structuresExposure to international reporting considerations or multi-entity consolidationsWhat Success Looks Like in This RoleAccurate and timely SEC filings with no material errorsFully compliant XBRL tagging aligned with current SEC taxonomyEffective implementation of new accounting standardsStreamlined financial reporting processes with strong internal controlsStrong partnership with finance leadership, auditors, and regulators#J-18808-Ljbffr
