Manufacturing Engineer (Local Candidates Only)

** Applicants must be located within commutable distance of Torrance, CA, 90505 or willing to relocate without assistance **** Applicants must not require sponsorship now or anytime in the future**This manufacturing engineering role will lead continuous improvement activity for the Torrance, CA facility, guiding the transition from heavy fabrication to light assembly. Salary Range : $110-130K / yearResponsibilitiesLead the operational transition from heavy fabrication to a focus on light assembly through redesign and layout, material flow, and work cell configuration.Develop value stream mapping (stock to Assembly operations) to propose phased improvements to floor layout considering subassembly outsourcing.Identify and execute near-term improvements that reduce complexity, waste and overhead.Develop equipment and tooling plan to support a new layout and improved productivity.Design and implement interim operating models that support production continuity while longer-term systems are developed.Apply Lean manufacturing systems principles to support transformation objectives.Establish performance baselines and track progress using operational metrics tied to business outcomes.Evaluate and improve space utilization, indirect labor models and operational support structures.Responsible for work cell decommissioning and continuous improvement.Background and ExperienceMinimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing and/or industrial engineeringHands-on application of 6 Sigma/Lean manufacturing principles in a production environmentAbility to translate operational changes into financial and capacity implicationsExperience in multi-product or mixed-mode manufacturing environments preferredBackground in both engineered and repeatable assembly operations preferredExperience working in evolving operating models preferredSkills and Work StyleDetail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skillsEffective communicator with ability to work cross-functionallyProactive and self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindsetCollaborative and positive team playerEducationBachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)Formal Lean or 6 Sigma training or certification preferred
