And we do, because a trusted partner is who we are and who we've been for nearly a century.POSITION PURPOSEThe Environmental Safety and Health Manager is responsible for maintaining compliance with various Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations regarding workplace safety.RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrate the knowledge and understanding required of an OSHA Competent PersonContinuously evaluate Metromont's processes, safety standards, and safety practices and provide feedback on areas where non-compliance with regulations may existImplement corrective action in areas found to be non-complaint with regulationsParticipate in training classes and continual education required to maintain OSHA 100-hour certificationIn case of an audit, serve as the main liaison on site between Metromont and the regulator agencyLead plant management in safety improvement efforts and implementation of Metromont's safety programsServe as the leader and mentor on site for Metromont's Behavioral Based Safety ProgramFacilitate safety committee meetingsParticipate in plant safety audits and routine process confirmation walks. Utilize information gained to formulate corrective action and continuous improvement plansEvaluate Metromont's processes, in cooperation with plant management, to determine ways to minimize risk of injuryImplement process changes with respect to safety and train all associates on those changesMaintain all plant safety records, MSDS files, operator certifications, and safety related training filesDevelop, maintain, and update Metromont's Safety Best Practices and communicate those practices to new associates, as well as provide refresher training to current associatesConduct new hire orientation and follow up with plant management on the mentoring of new associatesConduct safe equipment operation training for associates whose roles will require them to operate equipmentOrient sub-contractors and train them on Metromont's safety practices in advance of their performing work at Metromont's facilitiesConduct training and orientation for new chemicals introduced to the plantSupport plant tool box meetings by providing topics and working with plant supervision to conduct meetingsConduct all investigations and complete reports for near misses, plant first aids, and safety incidentsCommunicate near misses, plant first aids, and safety incidents to plant management, fellow safety managers, and designated members of Metromont's management team when they occurIn the event of injury requiring treatment beyond normal first aid, coordinate the activities necessary to get the associate to the appropriate treatment centerProvide follow up assistance for all Workers Compensation cases including coordination of post-accident physician or physical therapy visits, coordination of light duty assignments with plant management, and release to normal dutiesSCOPE OF AUTHORITYThis position interfaces on a continuous basis with the Director of Safety, Plant Managers, Production Managers, Supervisors, and other plant associatesThis position must also work independently with no supervisionCHARACTERISTICS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)Diplomatic and accommodating; seeks out opinions of others and works to achieve consensusFriendly and relationship focused on their communication style; prefers to focus their activities on relationship building and careOrganized and focusedAbility to handle variety in the work environment and can handle occasional disruptions to their work flowFlexible and can adjust their behaviors to establish and build relationships with others for short periods of time when necessaryGrounded and more formal in their communication styleLogical in approach to issuesImaginative; must be innovative to improve existing processes or systemsSeeks to make incremental adjustments to proven ways of doing thingsProficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and OutlookEDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGYAssociate Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or other related fieldMinimum of 3 years' experience in a safety management or support safety management roleExperience training associates is a plusExperience managing or being involved in a Behavior Based Safety Program is a plusWORK ENVIRONMENT / SCHEDULEMonday-Friday8 AM-5 PMTypically works in an office environment in the plantSchedule flexibility may be needed to meet deadlinesINTERNAL PROGRESSIONPrevious roles may include:Safety CoordinatorLateral roles may include:Corporate Safety ManagerFuture roles may include:TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENTGeneral HR OrientationNew Hire Safety OrientationAny other training as neededPERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PPE)Safety glassesHearing protectionHard hatHigh visibility vestSteel toe shoesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis is a combination of an office position and a manufacturing focused position which requires sitting, standing, and walking.Disclaimer:This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
