Sensor Development Engineer - Speed and Position Sensing Location: Rockford, IL Compensation: $100,000 to $130,000 per year An automotive components manufacturer with international operations is hiring a Sensor Development Engineer to lead the development of speed and position sensing products from concept through production launch. This role serves as the technical program leader, translating customer requirements into robust sensing solutions and coordinating across magnetic design, sensor electronics, materials, mechanical packaging, validation, and manufacturing. This is a product ownership role rather than a hands-on design position, the engineer owns the product through its full development lifecycle. Schedule Full-time, on-site in Rockford, IL. Compensation $100,000 to $130,000 per year, based on experience. What You'll Do The Sensor Development Engineer leads speed and position sensing product programs from concept through production launch, serving as the technical point of contact for assigned programs. The role translates customer requirements into sensing solutions by integrating magnetic design, sensor electronics, materials, mechanical packaging, validation, and manufacturing processes. This includes collaborating closely with customers and cross-functional internal teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective products that meet performance, quality, and timing objectives, while managing the product through automotive development milestones and gate processes. Required Qualifications Hands-on experience with one or more sensing technologies: Variable Reluctance (VR) sensors, Hall-effect sensors, Magnetoresistive (MR) sensors, rotary position sensors, or linear position sensors Understanding of electromagnetic and magnetic circuit design principles Knowledge of automotive product development processes, including APQP, DFMEA, and PPAP Preferred Qualifications Experience owning a sensor product from concept through production launch Experience working directly with automotive customers on program requirements Background in cross-functional program leadership within automotive manufacturing Compensation and Benefits $100,000 to $130,000 per year, based on experience Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) plan Paid time off To apply, submit your resume detailing your sensor development and automotive program experience.
