Paint Prep Operator

Shift: Monday - Friday 6:15am to 2:45pmPosition PurposePrepare plastic Aerospace parts for paintingEssential Duties And ResponsibilitiesFollow Lean Manufacturing and 5s practicesVisually inspect parts prior to painting to identify failures and damage. Report all parts that appear damaged or incorrectly processed to Paint Shop SupervisorEnsure parts to be painted are clear of dirt or foreign material, and clean them if necessaryReview work orders for missed processes and fill out/maintain paperworkPrepare parts using tools such as sandpaper, electric sander, etc. to achieve finish look of BB calloutMaintain knowledge of current specifications and call outsTouching up and/or masking and unmasking of partsFollow hazardous chemical and waste handling proceduresWear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) properly. This includes maintaining the area of the face where the respirator seals are clean and hair free Must be able to read and interpret all MSDS sheets on all chemicals being used Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency Maintain safe working practices and ensure area is clean and free of any possible unsafe situations Responsible for following all established Vaupell policies, standard operating procedures and safety practices Other duties as assigned Job Qualifications/RequirementsHigh school diploma or GEDSix months to one-year related paint experience preferredSkill in prioritizing and managing a fast-paced work environmentAbility to use a computer for basic Microsoft Office functions (includes Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)Excellent attention to detailAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and ability to apply basic mathematical skills to the work environmentExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, team oriented, and ability to deal with a wide variety of personalities and communication stylesAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsSkill in organizing, identifying, and recognizing differences or similaritiesAdaptable to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplaceAccepting constructive criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with stressful situationsWillingness to take on responsibilities and challengesAbility to establish job priorities without direct supervision utilizing established criteria regarding part size, application, and rack usage Computer proficiency in MS Office Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Must be able to wear and properly use the required personal protective equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations.
