You will help shape platform direction while improving resiliency, security, performance, and cost efficiency across high-volume transaction services. You will work with product, operations, security, and engineering partners to deliver outcomes that scale.As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within Consumer & Community Banking, you will own critical technology domains end to end, guide multiple agile squads, and set engineering standards that improve reliability and delivery velocity. You will influence architecture decisions, lead complex changes safely, and mentor engineers to raise the quality bar across the organization.Job ResponsibilitiesDefine and evolve target-state architecture for debit and payments services using modern distributed-systems patternsLead domain-level technical ownership across multiple services, ensuring high availability, low latency, and operational excellenceDrive modernization initiatives, including platform upgrades and decomposition efforts, with clear risk management and rollback plansEstablish and enforce API governance, schema/versioning practices, and engineering standards through design reviews and reference implementationsImprove reliability through service level indicators/service level objectives, runbooks, post-incident learning, and capacity planningBuild and mature observability practices, including distributed tracing and metrics that cover synchronous and asynchronous workflowsPartner with security, risk, and compliance stakeholders to ensure secure engineering practices and audit-ready controlsStandardize event streaming and messaging practices, including idempotency, retry strategies, and dead-letter queue handlingMentor and coach senior and lead engineers, strengthening engineering practices across squadsCommunicate technical strategy, tradeoffs, and delivery plans to senior stakeholders and cross-functional partnersRequired Qualifications, Capabilities And SkillsFormal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience10+ years of software engineering experience delivering production systems at scaleAdvanced Java expertise, including concurrency, memory management, and performance tuningStrong experience building services with Spring Boot and designing secure, well-governed RESTful APIsDemonstrated experience with cloud-native delivery using Kubernetes and containers, including deployment and operational practicesProven reliability engineering experience, including service level objectives, incident response, and capacity planningStrong observability experience, including instrumentation, tracing, and metrics across distributed systemsSolid experience with data persistence and streaming, including relational databases and Kafka, plus schema evolution and transactional integrity patternsDemonstrated secure engineering practices, including OAuth2/OIDC, mutual TLS, secrets management, and software supply-chain controlsStrong collaboration and leadership skills, including mentoring engineers and leading cross-team technical initiativesPreferred Qualifications, Capabilities And SkillsExperience supporting debit, payments, or other high-volume transaction platforms in regulated environmentsFamiliarity with PCI DSS-aligned controls and partnering with audit, risk, and compliance teams on evidence and remediationExperience with Camunda and BPMN-based workflow orchestrationExperience with Infrastructure as Code (such as Terraform) and GitOps delivery modelsExperience with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, and/or Dynatrace in large distributed systemsFamiliarity with ISO 8583 and/or ISO 20022 integrations, reconciliation patterns, or settlement workflowsABOUT USChase is a leading financial services firm, helping nearly half of Americaâs households and small businesses achieve their financial goals through a broad range of financial products.
