Job Summary We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented DOD Freight Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will manage complex logistics operations supporting Department of Defense (DOD) shipments, ensuring compliance with all regulations while optimizing transportation processes. Your proactive approach will help strengthen our supply chain management efforts and enhance customer satisfaction through effective account management and freight solutions. Duties Coordinate and oversee transportation management activities for DOD shipments, including scheduling and dispatching freight carriers. Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through inside sales efforts, providing tailored logistics solutions that meet their unique needs. Manage transportation management systems (TMS), EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), and CRM software to track shipments, generate reports, and facilitate seamless communication. Negotiate contracts and pricing with carriers, 3PL providers (Third-Party Logistics), NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers), and other logistics partners to secure optimal freight rates. Ensure compliance with FDA regulations and other relevant standards for sensitive shipments while adhering to all safety protocols. Lead lead generation initiatives to identify new business opportunities within the logistics sales sector, focusing on transportation sales and carrier sales strategies. Perform data entry, dispatching, and freight tracking activities accurately within transportation planning tools such as AS400 or similar platforms. Experience Proven experience in supply chain management or transportation management roles within a logistics or freight environment. Strong background in B2B sales, account management, and customer relationship management (CRM). Familiarity with logistics sales techniques, negotiation strategies, and contract management. Hands-on experience with transportation management systems (TMS), EDI platforms, and CRM software like Salesforce or equivalent tools. Knowledge of freight forwarding processes including dispatching, pricing negotiations, carrier relations, and compliance with FDA regulations when applicable. Ability to handle data entry tasks efficiently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. Prior experience working with 3PL providers or NVOCCs is highly desirable.
