The CDO will be the primary leader in all fundraising efforts related to planned giving, including the securing of bequests, endowments, and other complex deferred gift arrangements. This role requires a deep understanding of gift planning arrangements and industry best practices, as well as the ability to manage a high-net-worth portfolio, oversee gift planning and major gift programs, and ensure donor stewardship. The successful candidate will also be responsible for strategic planning, managing a team of development professionals, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance gift planning operations. Candidates for the CDO position should have a baccalaureate degree and at least 10 years of professional fundraising experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a management role. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in securing deferred gifts, strong leadership and management skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of constituents. Advanced writing, analytical skills, and experience with donor databases are essential. Preference will be given to those with advanced academic degrees, fundraising certifications, and a background in a fundraising role within an educational setting.
