Java Application Developer

Job Title: Full Stack Developer (Java/AWS/Kafka)Location: Remote position with preference for candidates located in the Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland (DMV) area.Contract Details: Initial 12-month contract Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Full Stack Developer with strong expertise in Java, AWS cloud technologies, Kafka, and modern web application development. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-scale applications while contributing across both front-end and back-end technologies in an Agile environment.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain complex web applications across front-end and back-end systems.Develop high-quality, scalable, and maintainable Java applications following industry best practices.Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.Configure, develop with, and support Kafka-based messaging and streaming solutions.Build clean, efficient, and optimized code to improve application performance and reliability.Design and maintain data models to support enterprise data requirements and ensure data integrity.Develop complex SQL queries and data operations to support backend services and integrations.Collaborate with Product Owners to refine business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.Partner closely with architects and technical teams to ensure alignment with overall solution design and enterprise standards.Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.8+ years of hands-on Java development experience.3+ years of experience working with Apache Kafka.Strong experience with messaging and event-streaming platforms.Extensive hands-on experience developing applications using AWS services including:LambdaS3Elastic BeanstalkSQSSNSAPI GatewayEC2Data PipelineCloudWatchCodeCommitCloudFormationStrong development experience with:JavaJ2EESpring FrameworkREST APIsAngularExperience building cloud-native applications using AWS technologies such as:LambdaKinesisDynamoDBAuroraRedshiftNode.jsExperience with data modeling and database design.Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational and non-relational databases.Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Git, Jenkins, and JIRA.Strong understanding of domain-driven design (DDD) and event-driven architecture principles.Experience delivering complex enterprise integration solutions.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.Preferred QualificationsKafka administration experience.Experience supporting Federal, State, or other public sector clients is highly desirable.Experience working within large enterprise environments.Experience working in Agile Scrum teams.
