SY26-27 Behavior Specialist – DC PrepJoin DC Prep as a full-time Behavior Specialist beginning July 2026 in Washington, DC. We're a high-performing network of public charter schools serving over 2,100 students (pre-K-8) across six campuses. Our mission is to combine rigorous academics with social-emotional learning and to provide every child with the support they need to succeed.OverviewAs the campus Behavior Specialist you will partner with our special education and student services teams to support students' behavioral, social, and emotional growth. Your work will include assessment, intervention design, counseling, and collaboration with families and faculty.ResponsibilitiesIdentify students in need of behavioral or social-emotional support and deliver in-house services or refer to community agencies.Provide individual and group counseling to special education students.Conduct psycho-educational evaluations, Functional Behavioral Assessments, and social history reports as requested by the multidisciplinary team.Develop, monitor, review, and modify behavior intervention plans.Develop and monitor behavioral and social-emotional goals for students receiving counseling.Conduct classroom observations of students.Provide ABA therapy to students with IEPs.Support students in crisis.Who You AreA fierce advocate for all students, particularly those requiring targeted behavior interventions.Unwavering belief that academic success and a supportive classroom environment are inseparable.Solutions-oriented, data-driven, collaborative, and passionate about serving underserved communities.Open to feedback, a team player, and eager to add joy and purpose to daily work.Committed to addressing the intersection of race and public education and to the transformational power of mission-aligned collaboration.Additional CharacteristicsOutstanding interpersonal skills and emotional constancy in building relationships with students, families, and colleagues.Superior analytical skills to support ongoing curriculum planning, development, and refinement.Effective written communication skills.Meticulous organization to set priorities and meet deadlines.Optimism, maturity, and personal resiliency.Strong belief in DC Prep's vision, mission, and values, including diversity and inclusion.Desire to collaborate with families, teachers, and school staff.QualificationsMaster's Degree in Behavior Analysis, Applied Behavior Analysis, Education/Special Education, Psychology, or a related field; OR Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC)Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW)BCBA certificationPrevious experience in school settings with school-aged students.Skills and CharacteristicsDedication to supporting student achievement in under-served communities.Passion for connecting with students and families in support of success.Exceptional oral communication for varied audiences.Clear and efficient written communication, essential for curriculum writing, email, and documentation.Superior analytical skills and sound judgment for autonomous decision-making.Ability to thrive amid ambiguity and nuance.Organizational discipline for prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines.Professional relationships based on interpersonal constancy.Positive attitude, maturity, and personal stability for a demanding role.Deep commitment to DC Prep's mission, values, and diversity goals.Compensation & BenefitsHighly competitive salary.Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, maternity/paternity adoption leave, and a 403(b) retirement plan.Essential FunctionsStaff work Monday-Friday 7:15 a.m.–4:15 p.m.; Wednesday uniforms until 5:00 p.m. for professional development.Occasional cross-campus reporting for professional development and network events.Clerical duties: supplies, student reports, attendance, assessments.Daily classroom, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned by the principal.Participation in field trips, events, conferences, and home visits as required.Physical DemandsExtended periods of sitting, standing, and moving within the classroom.Ability to handle repetitive wrist/hand/finger movements on a computer.Capacity to use speech, hearing, reach, grasp, and lift up to 30 lb with or without accommodations.Concentration in active or noisy environments.Handling high-stress situations.DisclaimerJob responsibilities may evolve.
