Senior Software Engineering Manager
We are looking for the right people - people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.About LandmarkLandmark, a Halliburton company, builds the software and data platforms that help the global energy industry make better decisions. Our products span subsurface interpretation, well construction planning, reservoir simulation, production optimization, and data management. These are tools used daily by engineers and scientists at the world's largest energy companies. We are hiring Senior Software Engineering Managers across multiple product domains to match the scale and ambition of our engineering organization.About the RoleAs a Senior Software Engineering Manager at Landmark, you will lead a major engineering function within one of several product domains: subsurface (geophysics and geoscience software), drilling software, reservoir modeling, production optimization, or data platforms. The specific domain will depend on your background and on organizational need, but the engineering challenges are shared across all of them.Landmark's product portfolio carries decades of accumulated science and engineering value. Much of the current work involves refactoring large, mature codebases at scale: decoupling the science, the business logic, the data layers, and the UI so that each can evolve independently. Several products are moving to new platforms entirely. You will lead teams through these transitions while continuing to deliver value to customers who depend on the software today. The balance between modernization and continued delivery, between architectural discipline and the pressure to ship, is the defining challenge of the role. You will manage Engineering Managers or senior individual contributors, and you will develop them with the same intentionality you expect them to bring to their own teams. This is not a role where you manage from a distance. You earn trust by walking into the technical details when it matters, whether that means reviewing an architectural proposal, working through the tradeoffs in a migration sequence, or helping a team resolve a difficult dependency. You pair that technical depth with the organizational skill to run a disciplined engineering operation: clear standards, consistent practices, and teams that understand not just what they are building but why. What You Will DoLead multiple engineering teams or a large team of 10-20 engineers, with accountability for delivery, quality, and operational health across your scopeManage Engineering Managers or senior individual contributors by coaching them on leadership, delivery, and the growth of their own teamsSequence and oversee major architectural changes, including legacy decomposition, layer decoupling, and platform migrations, against ongoing delivery commitments so that modernization does not come at the cost of customer valueMaintain engineering discipline across your scope: sprint health, quality standards, incident response, technical debt management, and consistent practices that teams can rely onDive into technical issues when the situation requires it, review architecture proposals, pressure-test migration plans, and work alongside Staff and Principal Engineers to ensure that management direction and technical direction reinforce each otherCommunicate the intent behind priorities and decisions so that your teams understand the "why," not just the "what," and can make good local decisions without waiting for directionWork with product leaders to align engineering direction and product direction, ensuring that the sequencing of technical work reflects both customer value and long-term architectural goalsContribute to cross-functional planning with product management, design, and domain science to set quarterly priorities and manage dependenciesBuild organizational clarity: clear team charters, well-understood ownership boundaries, and documented engineering practicesIdentify organizational impediments, whether structural, technical, or interpersonal, and resolve them before they compoundSet the hiring bar across your scope, build the candidate funnel, and make the final calls on senior hiresWhat You Will BringRequired:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM discipline, or equivalent professional experience8+ years of professional software engineering or engineering management experience3+ years managing engineering teams with direct accountability for delivery outcomesExperience managing managers or leading a team large enough to require delegation of management responsibilityDemonstrated ability to lead delivery across complex, multi-team or multi-stakeholder programsA technical background that allows you to engage credibly with architectural decisions, code quality tradeoffs, and platform migration planning; you do not need to write code daily, but you must be able to go deep when it mattersStrong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to create clarity from ambiguity and represent engineering needs at a senior leadership levelTrack record of deliberate talent development: growing engineers and managers through feedback, stretch assignments, and coachingPreferred:Experience leading large-scale refactoring or modernization of mature, complex codebasesExperience with platform migrations, including moving products from one runtime, framework, or deployment model to another while maintaining continuity for customersFamiliarity with the architectural patterns involved in decoupling monolithic applications: separating science or domain logic from UI, extracting data layers, and establishing clean API boundariesExperience leading engineering teams that build scientific, simulation, or engineering-domain software for expert usersFamiliarity with cloud-native software delivery at scale on AWS, Azure, or GCPExperience building engineering operational practices from the ground up, including on-call frameworks, engineering health metrics, and incident post-mortemsBackground in energy, geoscience, drilling, reservoir engineering, production engineering, or a related technical domain, whether as an engineer, a manager, or through adjacent software workWe welcome candidates from all backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if your experience does not match every item in the preferred list. Why LandmarkLandmark is growing its engineering leadership team across the product portfolio. The people we hire into these roles will own a meaningful slice of the product and the teams that build it. You will have real scope, peers who are invested in your growth, and the latitude to build organizational practices that last.We build small, high-ownership teams and invest in the quality of every person on them. Engineers here co-author the product direction alongside product management and domain science: the art of the possible is an engineering contribution, not a function that sits upstream. The experiences we design ensure that customers remain in control of the decisions that matter, never passengers in their own workflows. Please Note:This posting is intended to collect candidate information for Halliburton's talent pool, and is not considered an application.
