Basic Needs CoordinatorWe have an exciting opportunity for a Basic Needs Coordinator position located at our campus in Menifee, CA. Under supervision and direction of the Director of CALWORKs, the Basic Needs Coordinator, will focus on addressing the basic needs of students and provide a holistic, comprehensive basic needs services and resources to students to support their successful matriculation through the community college system and beyond. Establish and maintain the Basic Needs Center(s) to offer services and resources to students in need. Audit resources that are available on-campus and in the community and maintain an easy to access college webpage.Conditions of employment include: This position serves District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility. Work hours and worksite locations are subject to change depending on department needs. A six-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the district.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.Contact local businesses, institutions, and city and county agencies to determine basic needs services and resources for studentsCoordinating with the campus financial aid office to ensure students are receiving the maximum aid availableIdentifying, supporting and linking students to on – and – off campus housing, food, mental health and other basic needs and resourcesDeveloping on – and – off campus partnerships, including coordination with the local homelessness response system, to ensure that students have access to community-based servicesEnsuring that students receive support in accessing CalFresh and other public benefits for which they are likely eligibleCreate brochures, flyers, newsletters, and advertisements for the Basic Needs Center services and resourcesFacilitate transition services such as work-based learning opportunities, provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills, and promote the use of technology for career planning and researchCollaborate with the Career/Transfer Center in offering presentations, workshops, and interview panels on various workability skills such as launching job search, application preparation, resume writing, interview techniques, job retention, job market trends, and internshipsArticulate the needs of students to appropriate college personnelAssist in preparing required narrative and expenditure reports within specific timelinesMaintain a friendly, supportive, atmosphere for students, staff, faculty, and the publicKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe incumbent should possess knowledge of:CalFresh program eligibility requirements and application processCommunity based programs that offer basic needs assistance i.e., food, shelter, clothing, utility assistanceEducational opportunities available at the community college level, labor and market conditions, socio-economic issues, and their impact on current students Grant and categorical program filing needsProgram and operating procedures, updates, guidelines, rules, policies, and regulationsApplicable Federal, State, and local lawsRecord keepingReportingProgram resources and client baseCommunity organizations and agenciesComputer programsBasic mathAccounting principlesGrant proposal preparationThe incumbent should possess skills in:Accurate data entryMeeting schedules and timelinesCommunicating effectively both orally and in writingMaintaining documentation and recordsHandling multiple assignments simultaneously and set priorities based on customer needsThe incumbent should possess the ability to:Provide and coordinate a variety of services and activities to assist students and their families Learn computer programs, and program parameters quicklyMake changes required by program updatesEffectively prioritize workload tasksTrain and provide work direction to othersEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffQualifications and RequirementsMinimum qualifications include:A Bachelor's degree (*attach transcript) ANDTwo (2) years of professional, coordinator experience in a related field that will demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities necessary to meet the performance objectives of the essential duties and responsibilities of this job description ANDDemonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff***To ensure a fair and compliant screening process, application materials must only include minimal personal information.
