Summer Associate - B-MVP Youth Mentor Program OutreachBig Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Big Sky Country strives to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Following the closure of the Yellowstone County office in January 2025, BBBS of Big Sky Country stepped in to preserve vital mentorships for the Billings community. While they have successfully stabilized many community-based matches, a large service gap remains. According to the 2026 Yellowstone County Community Health Needs Assessment, a growing number of young people in Billings are facing challenges related to mental health, substance abuse, and violence. Living in poverty is also a significant barrier for youth in the area to get the opportunity to form relationships with positive mentors. By establishing connections in the community and helping to re-establish mentorship opportunities in the area, this project will lay the foundation for future programming and continue to create opportunities for youth for many years to come. This project will alleviate poverty by offering a chance for vulnerable youth to engage with healthy mentors that provide consistent support and opportunities for positive skill building. Mentored youth are more likely to stay in school, have better educational outcomes, and earn more money over their lifetime when compared to their non-mentored peers. The overall goal of this project is to increase the number of students in mentorship programs so that they have improved academic engagement or social-emotional skills that increase levels of educational success and lead to more financial stability over time. The Summer Associate will play a crucial role in educating the community and promoting community-based mentoring as an effective tool for alleviating poverty; facilitate new program enrollments through targeted outreach methods; and form at least one new partnership with a nonprofit or organization that serves youth in the area.
